Join the Diablos... and go to Hell!
We are always looking for new players. You do not need any prior experience, but you do need to make the commitment to learn and try your best effort. We will help you learn the sport and develop your skills. This is a physically demanding sport. You will feel like hell after the first practice, but hang in there. You will accomplish more than you thought was possible, if you keep making the commitment every week.
Practices are open to everyone. Try it out. All you need are some sturdy shorts, a tee-shirt, and athletic shoes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. It is not uncommon for out-of-town ruggers to come to practice.
Practices/Match Pitches
Summer practices are Monday’s and Wednesdays @ 6:45 p.m. at Lake Highlands Park which is just south of Mockingbird on Buckner. Click here for a practice pitch map. Winter practices are held at Griggs Park near Uptown and will start Sept. 3td, 2008. Click here for a map to the practice pitch.
Home matches are played at Lake Highlands Park near White Rock Lake. The game pitch is on the west side of Buckner Blvd. at Lake Highland. Click here for a match pitch map.
Membership Levels and Dues
There are two playing seasons per year. The Fall Season runs from August to December. The Spring Season runs January to April.
There are two membership levels for players: Competing and Active. All players participate in practices, matches, and club events. Competing members are registered (CIPP'ed) with USA Rugby and play in the matches. Active members are encouraged to suit up, attend club matches and perform supporting duties (i.e. run water, warm-up with the team, etc). Active members can change their membership to competing at any time. The team captain is available to help you with this decision.
NOTE: For the 2008-2009 season, USA Rugby has changed its CIPP schedule from calendar to an August-July schedule. Consequently, we have reallocated the CIPP cost to the Fall dues.
The club does provide payment plans for those people who are interested in joining but are not able to pay the full dues amount at once. Also, we have grant programs for young people who need financial assistance.
The Social membership level grants you access to all club events such as post match drink-ups and end of season banquet. You will be a voting member of the club and may be elected/appointed to an office.

Your Kit Gear
The playing gear (a.k.a. Kit) is fairly simple and straight forward. You can purchase these items at many local sports shops or online rugby specialty shops. It is not necessary to spend a lot of money for these items because they will need to be replaced during your rugby career.
Rugby shorts - or a strong, cotton short works well.
Rugby shirt - or a strong, cotton shirt (preferably longsleeve) will do. Wearing a rugby shirt helps you get comfortable with wearing one. T-shirts are okay for practice.
Mouthguard - you must purchase a mouthguard from a sporting goods store and be sure to follow the directions to conform the guard to the shape of your teeth.
Cleats - Rugby boots are recommended, but soccer (softball) cleats are acceptable. Cleats must not contain the single "toe" cleat or hard plastic blades. Sneakers are NOT recommended. The frequent starts and stops can cause injury if you do not have proper traction.
Water - Remember to drink lots of water before and during practice. We bring some bottled water to practice, but you should not always count on it being there.
Towel
Change of clothes - this comes in handy if practice gets a bit dirty since we often grab a bite afterwards.
